But Hany responded, taking the next game before holding her nerve in the decider to complete a 19-21, 21-13, 21-14 victory.

The Egyptian will next face fifth seed Husina Kobugabe of Uganda who advanced to the last eight with a 21-6, 21-6 thrashing of South Africa’s Michaela Ohlson.

Home hopes rest on the shoulders of fourth seed Johanita Scholtz who claimed a 21-15, 21-16 win over Uganda’s Tracy Naluwooza.

Algeria’s Tanina Violette Mammeri will be Scholtz’s next opponent after the sixth seed defeated Egypt’s Rahma Mohamed Saad Eladawy 21-15, 21-14.

Unseeded duo Yasmina Chibah and Malak Ouchefoun are set to meet in an all-Algerian quarter-final clash.

After stunning third seed Lorna Bodha of Mauritius in the opening round, Ouchefoun has moved into the last eight with a 21-15, 21-17 success against Madeleine Carene Leticia Akoumba Ze of Cameroon.

Chibah also progressed after seeing off eighth seed Hana Tarek Zaher 21-12, 21-12.

Seventh seed Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi of Uganda came from behind to avoid an upset, beating Nigeria’s Chineye Ibere 19-21, 21-9, 21-14.

Mohamed Rafi has been rewarded with a match against Egypt’s second seed Nour Ahmed Youssri who downed Algeria’s Linda Mazri 21-6, 21-4.

All eight seeds will contest the quarter-finals of the men’s singles as top ranked Youcef Sabri Medel of Algeria overcame Egypt’s Ahmed Salah 21-17, 21-11.

Medel will now tackle South Africa’s eighth seed Robert Summers who defeated Mauritius’ Melvin Appiah 21-16, 21-9.

Nigeria’s third seed Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori claimed a 21-11, 21-16 victory over home player Ruan Snyman to set up a quarter-final tussle with Zambia’s sixth seed Kalombo Mulenga who came from behind to beat Mauritius’ Jean Bernard Bongout 19-21, 21-13, 21-19.

In the bottom section of the draw, second seed Adham Hatem Elgamal of Egypt was made to work hard before completing a 21-18, 13-21, 21-15 triumph against South Africa’s Robert White.

Elgamal will next face seventh seed Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius who hammered Algeria’s Mohamed Abderrahime Belarbi 21-3, 21-1.

The other quarter-final contest will see Algeria’s Adel Hamek and Uganda’s Brian Kasirye, seeded fifth and fourth respectively, go head-to-head.

Hamek beat Aaron Assing of Réunion 21-18, 21-11, while Kasirye came from a game down to defeat South Africa’s Caden Kakora 17-21, 21-12, 21-6.
