Habitat: In habitat coral reefs, most commonly grow on walls. Attach to solid substrate, branches of Black coral trees and occasionally stalks of dead gorgonians. Depth: 35 - 130 ft. Characteristics: Brilliant shades of red and orange. Vase- or cup-like with rough-textured exterior. Usually in a cluster of several joined individuals, but may be solitary. Size: 3-12in. The surface is spiny. Tough but compressible. Releases sticky mucus released when squeezed.
