It is a hydroid crab of the family Epialtidae.

Appearance

Whitish to tan oval carapace with numerous rounded tubercles and small spine at rear. Long forked rostrum with U shaped notch between. Commonly decorates fork rostrum with hydroids.

Distribution

Indo-Pacific, also Japan.

Behavior

Often seen in association with gorgonians, sponges, hydroids, black coral. It uses hydroids or black coral to decorate itself

Habitat

Coral reef.

Reproduction

Members of the order Decapoda are mostly gonochoric. Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer .
