OPD names new executive deputy chief who will serve as second in command

Chief Todd Schmaderer chose Deputy Chief Scott Gray, a 25-year veteran of the Omaha Police Department

Omaha police Chief Todd Schmaderer has announced his pick for second in command. Deputy Chief Scott Gray will serve as executive deputy chief of police — a newly created role in the department. Gray is a 25-year veteran of the Omaha Police Department. He was promoted to deputy chief in 2017 and oversees the Uniform Patrol Bureau- the department's largest division. The creation of the role didn't come without controversy. OPD already had five deputy chiefs, but supporters argued this would outline a clearer chain of command. Gray will receive a 6 percent specialty pay raise with the promotion.
