Tips
  • In the middle of the forest and on the Merazhofen / Waltershofen district is the Holy Stone, which is a magical attraction for many hikers and joggers. For religious reasons, small stones or handicrafted dolls are often placed here.

  • The holy stone is a boulder from the Ice Age. In 1632 the Swedes were beaten back at Herfatz and then set fire to all the houses along the street on their way back via Wangen in Oflings, Dürren and Waltershofen. The church in Waltershofen was burned down to the steeple. It is believed that this is why they met at the Holy Stone to celebrate their services. There was also a small altar here. Furthermore, this prominent point in the forest was considered a fairly safe place where the population holed up from the enemy. In 1663 the Waltershofen church was rebuilt and the population could celebrate their masses again in a church.
