Cyclists can use the toll road free of charge. The route is nice and bumpy, but can be ridden quickly on a racing bike. Unfortunately, in summer you have to expect quite a lot of traffic, which is not always pleasant on the narrow road. But the views of the Isar make up for the traffic.

This is a nice ascent if you take the route westward (vorderriss -> wallgau). Not too steep and with stretches and slopes to recover. Plus if you keep right in wallgau you have an awesome descent straight down to walchensee (lake).
