Sanja has broad experience in criminal and regulatory litigation and in advising on legal issues that arise during the course of such investigations. She has acted in numerous criminal and regulatory prosecutions, with a particular focus on health and safety. She has experience in both the New Zealand and Australian health and safety law jurisdictions.

Sanja also has experience in –

  • Providing public and administrative law advice regarding effective statutory decision making, lawful exercise of statutory functions and powers, and the obligations of Crown Entities under core public sector legislation;

  • Drafting secondary legislation;

  • Providing legal advice concerning regulatory reforms, Crown Entity commercial activities including funding agreements, sponsorship agreements, and standard government contracts, and in relation to Crown Entity strategic programmes of national and international significance.

Prior to joining the firm, Sanja was senior in-house counsel at WorkSafe New Zealand where she worked for five and half years spread over two periods, in an advisory role and as a litigator.

Sanja started her legal career in a general practice with a particular focus on civil litigation and criminal defence work. She then worked for the office of the Auckland Crown Solicitor.

Sanja was admitted in New South Wales, Australia in January 2016, and worked in Sydney in an international law firm specialising in health and safety, and subsequently as an in-house litigator for the New South Wales health and safety watchdog.

Sanja completed a four month ‘Women & Leadership Australia - Leading Edge' leadership programme for which she was awarded a scholarship.

Sanja is a committee member of the Auckland District Law Society Health and Safety Committee.
