Glenn Robinson III out at least 7-10 days

The Sixers lose a member of the rotation on Playoffs Eve.

With Ben Simmons out for the season, the Philadelphia 76ers need a collective effort to help fill the void, particularly in regard to wing defense against a Boston Celtics team overflowing with perimeter talent. One of the guys being counted upon to step up was trade deadline acquisition Glenn Robinson III. However, it would now appear as though the Sixers will be without his services for at least the next week.

Robinson’s hip pointer injury was first reported a couple weeks ago, and he would go on to sit out the team’s first four seeding games. He returned to the court for the games against Portland and Phoenix, looking particularly sharp against the Suns in tallying 15 points and seven rebounds. The 6-foot-6 wing sat out the final two games against Toronto and Houston, for what most assumed was rest purposes in essentially meaningless games. This reporting of an oblique strain throws a curveball into the mix, though.

In regard to GRIII’s timetable, Game 4 of the series against Boston falls seven days from now, whereas the 10-day mark would fall in between Games 5 and 6. Even under a best-case scenario, Robinson will be missing over half of this first-round series in which the Sixers were already considered underdogs.

I imagine Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Gordon Hayward were already keeping Brett Brown and the coaching staff up at night with deciding how best to defend them. With Robinson joining Simmons on the inactive list, even more of the burden will fall upon rookie Matisse Thybulle to provide quality minutes off the bench. The remaining Sixers certainly have their work cut out for them starting tomorrow night.
