UPIX Networks employs Padtec’s DWDM platform to expand its Brazil network presence

Sept. 5, 2023
The service provider will leverage the vendor’s transponders to bring optical networking services to key cities in Brazil.

UPIX Networks, an operator of neutral networks and connectivity services, is expanding its network in Brazil – which currently covers over 10,000 kilometers. This new network reaches Curitiba (PR), Porto Alegre (RS), and the São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro coastal cities.

To light the new routes, the operator uses Padtec’s 800 Gbps transponders (up to 400 Gbps per optical channel). Developed and manufactured in Brazil, Padtec’s 800 Gbps transponder offers high data transmission capacity over short, medium and long distances. Padtec’s latest generation of DWDM transponders feature Coupled Mode functionality, enabling intermediate transmission rates of 50, 150 and 250 Gbps, not just in increments of 100 at 100 Gbps increments.

With headquarters in São Paulo, Miami and Bogotá, UPIX Networks currently serves over 1,000 enterprise customers, with its networks in Brazil and Colombia and, through External Network-to-Network Interface (E-NNI) agreements, is present in an additional 15 countries.

Ronaldo Pelizon, CEO of UPIX, said the Padtec 800 Gbps DWDM platform will support its growing base of traditional and competitive service providers. “We propose to serve the different types of telecommunications companies, from over-the-top service operators (OTTs) to regional providers, contributing to the expansion of the very high-speed broadband offerings in Latin America, the United States and the world,” he said.
