Montpellier Hérault SC president Laurent Nicollin has admitted that he rejected an offer of more than €25 million for star striker Elye Wahi during the January transfer window.

Wahi was the top scoring teenager across Europe's five major leagues last season, and has contributed 17 goals and five assists from his 30 games in the current campaign.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he attracted interest from the Premier League, but Montpellier president Nicollin was having none of it.

Nicollin: 'Everyone has to be a winner'

"I was resigned to nothing," he told l'Equipe. "It's a logical conclusion that players formed at the club eventually leave their cocoon, [but] the whole thing is for everyone to be a winner.

"We have discussions with his agents and will open the door if we get the desired amount, otherwise he'll be here for another season.

"In January, I refused €25m plus bonuses from an English club. There are a lot of interested clubs. I think that, if Elye Wahi was the Marseille striker, he'd be worth €60m. He's destined to play in very big European clubs because he has the potential."

Wahi, for now, will be looking to add to his 17 goals this season when Montpellier welcome FC Lorient to the Stade de la Mosson on Sunday afternoon.
