About us

Music ensemble performing for the silent films and interdisciplinary arts. Founded in 1998 by pianist José Serralde, EnCiM (Ensamble Cine Mudo) summoned the talents of lead percussionist José Ángel Lugo and a set of young musicians interested in live performances for silent films. The ensamble invites different instrumentists according to the time and profile of each film or project, and has widen its performing skills to almost any kind interdisciplinary art-form needing live music performance. Due to its academic origins, EnCiM was born with the sole conviction that early films do need historical form and style references, and enough music sources for musicians to render appropiate live music for each screening. Even while using electronics and experimental media, the ensemble gathers scores and data correlations around the life and time of each filmmaker. Almost 15 years of doing music this way, has forged a recognisable and solid style for composition and live improvisation. EnCiM is by far, the most experienced and live film music dedicated musical project in Mexico.
