The Bayer executive who championed the company’s acquisition of Monsanto will step down. Chairman Werner Wenning, Bayer's former CEO, said he had planned to leave the German drug company earlier, but stayed to shepherd it through some of its legal battles that erupted over the Roundup herbicide it inherited as part of the $63 billon deal. Norbert Winkeljohann, a former PricewaterhouseCoopers executive, will replace Wenning, as Bayer seeks to resolve allegations by some 42,000 U.S. plaintiffs that its weedkiller causes cancer.
