PROUD TO HAVE SERVED I’m a proud member of the Australian War Correspondents and Military Public Affairs Association. I joined after many years of being an Army Reserve military public affairs officer. It was a brilliant time serving my country highlighting army’s capability and the work of its personnel on operations and exercises. I was delighted to march with a small contingent of the AWCMPAA and girl guides in the Anzac Day Sydney March today. #anzac #adf #army

DR FREELANDER MP VISITS ROYAL REHAB The Federal Member for Macarthur Dr Mike Freelander MP was suitably impressed with Royal Rehab when he visited this week. The Sydney-based specialised healthcare facility that focuses on spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and extensive neurological rehabilitation had undergone a transformation since he last visited as a medical practitioner decades ago. “Royal Rehab has an enviable reputation when it comes to patient care,” Dr Freelander told staff after his tour. “I would like to see equitable access to facilities like Royal Rehab. Equittable access to healthcare is why I got into politics.” The chair of the House of Representatives Select Committee into Health, Aged Care and Sport said he would be an ongoing advocate for Royal Rehab given its vital need in NSW. Royal Rehab CEO Matthew Mackay said it was an honour to have Dr Mike Freelander MP visit Royal Rehab and see its staff using cutting edge technology with patients and spend time interacting with staff and patients. “Dr Mike Freelander’s tour of Royal Rehab was excellent,” Matt Mackay said. Kurrajong Strategic Counsel Director Adrian Dolahenty said Royal Rehab has established an outstanding reputation for delivering superior patient care by embracing technology, research and exceptional medical knowledge. “Royal Rehab is gaining greater political understanding of its mission in the commmunity and the need for ongoing support to assist the most vulnerable to get quality health outcomes. Dr Freelander’s visit and speech to staff demonstrated his care, compassion and plans to help advocate for the hospital,” Adrian Dolahenty said. #royalrehab #alp #health #spinal #healthcare

NATIVE HARDWOOD TIMBER IS VALUED Kurrajong Strategic Counsel is continuing to advocate for native hardwood timbers for housing, construction, mining and railways. There are tight regulations governing the sector in NSW which is supplying Australia’s needs. Uppermost for the sector is protecting the environment and managing forests to protect fauna. The sector employs nearly 9000 people in NSW. #timber #forestry #environment #housing #construction #politics #railways

WELCOME BREAKTHRU People with disabilities associated with Breakthru Taree on the NSW mid north coast showed they are fantastic political advocates! They freely welcomed and engaged with the Federal Member for Lyne the Hon Dr David Gillespie MP at the hub today. Around 50 customers, staff and parents demonstrated their projects such as gaming, tour planning, music therapy while support workers talked about their rewarding work. The Family Mental Health Support Services team members provided a warm welcome for all and showcased their service for Dr Gillespie. Breakthru executive director disability services Peta Maskell and chief operations officer Denise Thomas had an in-depth discussion with Dr Gillespie around the NDIS. “Breakthru’s welcome sign is the first I’ve had in 10 years of politics,” Dr David Gillespie said. “Everyone is so happy here. None of the staff are unhappy at all.” The comment drew laughter. Dr Gillespie said it was good to see the NDIS was delivering positive outcomes in his electorate. He revealed he was on the NDIA committee when he first entered Federal Parliament in 2013. The Breakthru team clearly enjoyed Dr Gillespie’s visit and showed great pride in the service. #ndis #breakthru #taree #disability #nationals

PRETTY PERSISTENT Kurrajong Strategic Counsel was at the launch of former Queensland Nationals Senator Ron Boswell’s book in the Nationals Party Room today. ‘Not Pretty, But Pretty Effective’ is the story of a politician from a dysfunctional family who put political effectiveness front and centre. The Hon. Peter Dutton MP, Barnaby Joyce and Matthew Canavan spoke of the long standing Senator’s belief in getting things done for constituents on a regular basis. The Australian’s political editor Dennis Shanahan said Boswell was persistent in Government and in Opposition. He had a reputation of getting results because he could humble himself as “a paint salesman who needed a hand”. He did not have a university degree but his former colleagues said he had the stamina required for the hard road of politics where he toiled for 24 years. #nationals #theaustralian #senate #regions

POLITICAL THANK YOU We did a lap of honour with my Miami-based client Jonathan Weiss on Thursday. His medtech company Insightec secured an MBS item number for Focused Ultrasound for patients with Essential Tremor from 1 March. It was the end of a three-year political journey for me before we move on to saving kids’ lives. #lobbying #medtech #healthcare #alp #liberals #nationals

THE GOOD WOOD Great to be back at NSW Parliament House advocating for native hardwood timber in the Premier State. Native hardwood timber is used for housing, construction, railways and mining. HEALTH WARRIOR Great to meet up with my friend Mike Freelander MP in the first week of the 2024 Parliament. The Federal Member for Macarthur since 2016 and the chair of the House of Representatives Select Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport still has the fire in his belly to achieve better health outcomes for Australians. Dr Freelander MP is respected across the chamber and focused on his committee work. He hosted the successful Parliamentary Friends group for Parents and Babies that I organised with him last August. I look forward to working with Dr Freelander MP and his staff in 2024. #health #healthcare #politics #policymaking #alp
