Google Deepmind releases Gemini 1.0. The moment at 2:44 just blew my mind: You probably already heard the big news. But can Gemini hold to its promises? Here's what we know so far: - It is a multimodal AI tool, capable of handling various forms of input and output, providing flexibility for a wide range of tasks - Gemini is the first model to outperform human experts on Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU), a popular method to test AI models' knowledge and problem-solving abilities - Capabilities and Integration Gemini can complete complex tasks in math, physics, and other areas, and generate high-quality code in various programming languages - It is integrated into Google Bard and the Google Pixel 8, with plans for gradual integration into other Google services such as Search, Ads, and Chrome - Gemini comes in different versions, including Ultra, Pro, and Nano, each tailored for specific tasks and efficiency levels However, the recent demo of Google's Gemini AI has sparked controversy and skepticism due to the use of simplifications of the tasks in the video and the model's performance. Several reports have surfaced, indicating that the video was not relayed in real-time and that the AI's capabilities were exaggerated. Additionally, it has been revealed that the AI's output is much slower than depicted in the demo, and the responses were not generated in real-time, raising concerns about the accuracy and transparency of the demo. The controversy surrounding the edited demo video has led to questions about the actual capabilities of Gemini and its potential to outperform existing models like GPT-4. While Google has positioned Gemini as a significant advancement in AI, the discrepancies in the demo video have questioned the true model's performance and its ability to live up to the hype. My honest take: We need to test it out! Like a lot of new technologies, the end-user UX is almost as important as the benchmark improvements. Especially at the scale that Google operates. Still super excited to be able to test it out. What are your thoughts on this? #artificialintelligence

Will AI-search become a premium service? It seems that the future of internet content consumption will be divided into two ways: traditional services and premium AI-driven services. Short term visible effects: As Google seems to keep getting worse, on the contrary, tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot seem to keep getting better. Recently, Google announced that it is considering to charge for its core search generative experience services, but only for the ones which are AI driven. Why? As AI search is more expensive to compute than Google’s traditional search processes, Google could charge a subscription for these services to cover its costs and to finance the datacentres operations and partially the computing power required for the training of the GenAI. A few beta - premium users are already testing this AI search service. Google's strategy follows the move of CHATGPT which opened a store to offer new premium subscription features. How is Google's AI search working? Google’s GenAI responds to prompts directly with a single answer, similarly to the other conversational solutions in the market. There are no more blue links, no more rankings, no ads. Which are the Competitors of Google in AI search? Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine, runs no adverts. The monthly subscription to its advanced features (offering powerful AI models and unlimited use) is $20. Microsoft’s Bing AI features are free to use, but limited to Edge browser. Copilot pro is intended to be offered with a monthly subscription service per user. Arc offers its browsing and search products for free to users now, but intends to raise revenue in future by charging companies for business features. You.com, born as a private search engine summarizing the web for you, has currently an AI search assistant offers a pro-service for a monthly subscription of $15 or $180 annually. Do you think that will be there a space for a mass market usage of these GenAI search subscription services? Or will it become a professional B2B market offer with an high competition to lead the market? #search #ecommerce #marketing #ai #genai

To no surprise, the main theme of yesterdays Google I/O was AI. 🤖 The cool thing, in my opinion, is that they apply the technology in neat ways across their product portfolio, enhancing the overall experience when using their products. A few highlights: 1. PaLM 2 (love the name btw) - Google’s Language Model: - Similar to GPT-4, PaLM 2 is a significant update - Google’s approach varies, as they consider it a family of models with different purposes, e.g., coding, medical, security etc - The model has been trained on a large set of math and science papers, which should make it strong at reasoning, understanding word puzzles and the like - PaLM 2 is the foundation for all AI features at Google, and is also available through Firebase and Colab 2. Bard (chatbot) - The now smarter and more artistic version: - Google partners with Adobe to create art generation capabilities - pretty cool! - It will now be able to provide images in its responses - Google is removing the waitlist and making it available in 180 countries 3. Workspace - A sprinkle of AI in the daily work: - Now possible to do automatic table generation in sheets, however, no formulas yet - Adding AI image generation in Slides and Meet - type what you need to visualize, and it will create that image. - Sidekick for Docs. A Panel that constantly reads and process your document and provides contextual suggestions. 4. Codey - The Coding Son of PaLM 2: - As part of the PaLM 2 family of models, Codey focuses solely on code prompts - Trained on all internal google code, the context of Google Cloud and a large corpus of open-source code - Will be available on all code related Google products and will in the future help developers manage all of their services on Google Cloud 5. Project Tailwind - The AI powered notebook tool: - Sounds like a top secret agent 007 assignment, but it’s a notebook tool - It takes users’ free form notes and automatically organizing and summarizing them - It actually creates a private AI model with expertise in the information that you provide it. I see some interesting use cases for this in professional services. - Unfortunately, it’s only available through Labs (Google’s hub for experimental products) and for U.S. based users. Long post, hopefully worth the read. Anything major that I missed? #ai #technology #google
