Ideally, respected insiders are found on all levels of a company and given proper support at each level by operations, Human Resources, IS, PM, Finance…you name the functional work group of your choice.
However, it is not always the case. When it does happen it feels purely magical and the work group synergy and cultural synergy is elegantly electric. That being said, it’s an extremely delicate balance, at first, while you set in place a systematically holistic design and facilitate a healthy company wide transition (without using employees as Guinea pigs without their prior consent…much like mascara not tested on animals…ya just feel better because your choices are better) in the long run the payoff is well worth the work (and dare I say money?) to be paid in exchange.
Most acts of courage don’t come from whistle-blowers or organizational martyrs. They come from respected insiders at all levels who take action because it’s the right thing to do.
