As we continue our examination of the World Top 100 golf courses just released by GOLF Magazine our attentions turn to the combination of Ireland and Northern Ireland. There are some really amazing courses in this mix and I am pleased to say I have visited, played and photographed all of them! This part of the world can be accused of being a wet place and yes we have had rain there but also the most glorious sunrises and sunsets. The people are lovely and the golf is exceptional. Here goes… Certainly no surprise and a course that just blows you away with both its beauty and challenge sits firmly at the top of the rankings for this part of the world: 1. Royal County Down - steady at 6 2. Royal Portrush (Dunluce) - down 1 to 16 3. Ballybunion (Old) - steady at 24 4. Lahinch (Old) - down 1 to 37 5. St. Patrick’s Links - up 6 to 49 6. Portmarnock (Old) - down 6 to 59 It is also interesting to note that the lowest ranked course from Ireland sits at number 59 making it likely that all of the above will stay in top 100 for a long time yet.
