Kenyan SMEs to receive Sh7.7 billion boost from World Bank project. The Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) will be the technical advisor for a $50 million World Bank project. 90 youth, women, and disability-led SMEs will receive support to improve their products and compete in local and international markets. KIRDI will offer expertise in research, product development and improvement, business incubation, and access to common manufacturing facilities. The project will focus on value addition, especially for export products. KIRDI board chair Dinah Mwinzi says the project allows them to support existing and established businesses. The Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP) is a five-year initiative implemented by the Ministry of Trade and Industry with World Bank support. The project aims to increase innovation and productivity in Kenyan private sector firms. Kenyan SMEs, particularly those led by youth, women, and persons with disabilities, will receive a significant boost from a World Bank-funded project to improve their competitiveness and market access. Hardened investments from investors and aswell the government renders a firm assurance to the youths that the governemnt cares about their well being. The production and manufacturing industry of Rwanda has been revamped because of long term Investment. 👉 If the youths are to thrive in their various domains of strength and improve on their weaknesses, our leaders must have to first off believe that we can, and that we have what it takes to create change. It is evident that the government cannot provide jobs for every youths. That's why we have youths with talents, upcoming innovators, would-be entrepreneurs, etc. All they're requesting is funds and investment into their work either from the government or private sector. 👉A nation that is serious about development must have strong belief in the potential and prospects of it youthful population. Investment is always Long term. You may not get the reward soonest, but you would reap its reward in due time. Opportunities are readily available the main challenge at times is that we focus on the wrong things and at times we are not too sure of other opportunities available to us. I visited Burundi and I must say for businesspeople and investors there are many things one can do. Shall do a good macro profile on the country some time. As I was attending the EAC trade fair, I thought of the opportunity that exists due to the regional integration. One of the key pillars for growth for any business is availability of markets. The East African community is such a big deal since as you focus on it you are talking of access to a population of over 284 mn people and a joint GDP of $ 305. Bn. So question how can you organize your self to take advantage of this market. 1. For you to participate in this you need scale. The ability to grow this scale might need some handholding on matters packaging, marketing and other key stuff you can do this through the governments agencies like The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) and , join business associations close to your line of business like SME Founders Association (SFA) better still get consultants like Zurit Consulting. 2. One shall need capital, you start where you are and grow but with all good ideas, with a good execution team you attract funding. What is Inclusive development with Innovation and ease of doing business?🤔 Inclusive development means that the benefits reached all those that made up the poor in the region, particularly women and children, minority groups, the extremely poor in the rural areas, and those pushed below the poverty line by natural and human-made disasters. We rank ease of starting a business 71.7: Ethiopia (Rank: 168). The ranking of economies on the ease of starting a business is determined by sorting their scores for starting a business. These scores are the simple average of the scores for each of the component indicators. In the Global Innovation Index, Ethiopia ranked 117th in 2022 with 16.3 points. The index is calculated annually by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and most recently included 132 countries. The top country was Switzerland with 64.6 points. Some of the challenges and problems include high level of unemployment, high poverty incidence, lack managerial skills and low industrialization capacity, lack of finance, inconsistent government policies and inadequate infrastructure and insecurity of the business climate among others.
