Love this post. I have found this to be true for some high performers!
Your highest performers are twice as likely to experience anxiety. It’s true. They’re also more likely to: - Dwell on mistakes - Worry and plan for every detail - Mask their anxiety with stoicism or humor - Zero in on constructive feedback and dismiss praise But that same anxiety also benefits them. They use it to: - Find and fix what others miss - Be proactive rather than reactive - Remain organized and accountable - Not stop until they achieve their goals - Fuel their hard work and achievements --> Think about this when managing high-achievers. Three ways to keep your high-performers around for the long haul: 1. Don’t skip 1:1s because you trust their work. —> Show up. Give praise. Offer an ear. 2. Hold them to realistic standards. —> They’ll always hold themselves higher. 3. Encourage self-care. —> Disconnecting is hard. Encourage and respect work/life balance. Vastly overlooked form of leading with empathy. 👆
