#WalkTheTalk If as an #InfoSec / #CyberSecurity professional you want to portrait (and address yourself) as an #expert (which you can definitely be, within your field), then you MUST at the same time welcome constructive criticism/debate (no one can know it ALL) and be in position to uphold/demonstrate that you are indeed: a) knowledgable on the subject & #bestpractices, (not imaginary ones; those imaginary practices which you can easily tell they never had a chance to be implemented/applied in a real world environment, where RISK acceptance has significant IMPACT and real-world implications/concequences), b) well-informed about the latest #advancements, including prior research (don’t reinvent the wheel or share “ideas/practices” that were already proven BAD many years ago, for very good reasons). c) aware of the #ethical responsibilities. In other words: “Walk the Talk”, and stop portraying ‘bad examples/practices/behaviours’ especially for the younger generation in this industry, simply because you convinced someone at some point in time, to give you a stage to stand upon. #WalkTheTalk #LeadByExample

Flashback from @BSidesMCR, on stage, with @manc_marko, about to get on with my talk. Photo by my friend @securestep9. A talk about vulnerability disclosures and the story of how I found a vulnerability to a publicly accessible web app, that stored most of the #InfoSec pros’ PII. (before GDPR was in effect).

Something tells me there is somewhere a video of the designer/s of this “slide”, opening their hearts & sharing with people their “impostor syndrome”, and how they managed to get into designing ‘amazing slides’ (see bellow) without having any prior knowledge on the subject, but only by observing & learning on the job. #CyberSecurity #InfoSec #ImpostorSydrome The best part is, when they are called to the meeting to discuss/justify the results of their idea/design/implementation, they act surpised you are questioning the end-result(s) they came up with, and they tend to stir the conversation towards “what would YOU have done differently” and “tell us what YOU think is the issue and we will make the necessary adjustments”. If you get it, you get it. https://lnkd.in/dq-Rizfw
