A major step for the European battery industry. Two of its most innovative players are scaling-up and commercialising world-leading battery technologies. Echion Technologies and Morrow Batteries of Norway have signed a multi-year anode materials supply agreement. Echion’s unique XNO™ anode material will support the delivery of Morrow’s ‘LNMO-X’ core technology track, which offers safe, long-lasting, cobalt-free, fast-charging cells to the global lithium-ion battery market. This is a significant development for Europe. As industries take action to reach ‘net-zero’ by 2030, LNMO-XNO™ will be a key technology to accelerate the electrification of heavy-duty applications, including trains, ferries and AGVs. Thanks to Echion’s XNO™, Morrow’s customers will benefit from market-leading fleet and vehicle-level total cost of ownership. Echion CEO, Jean de la Verpilliere said, ‘We are delighted to be supporting Morrow with our XNO™ anode materials. We are pleased that Morrow sees the value and commercial advantages in our unique anode technology. Mining giants back eight winning ideas in global Charge On Innovation Challenge to decarbonise mining. A unique partnership between Echion Technologies and DB Engineering & Consulting, has been selected as one of 8 winners in the Charge On Innovation Challenge. The Charge On Innovation Challenge was launched in 2021 by BHP, Rio Tinto and Vale with a clear goal to find new electric truck charging solutions that will help the mining industry decarbonise. Currently diesel-powered truck fleets are responsible for up to 80% of a mine’s emissions. Electrifying those vehicles is no easy task as unprecedented levels of power will be required during operations. That was the challenge presented to technology innovators and vendors across the world. Echion partnered with DB Engineering & Consulting (DB E&C) to propose the development of a world-leading solution for the electrification of mining trucks. DB E&C’s Catenary and Advanced Battery Technology system combines proven rail industry technology with Echion’s cutting edge XNO™ battery chemistry to deliver an unrivalled electric solution. The other successful proposals came from ABB, Ampcontrol and Tritium (Australia), BluVein XL, Hitachi, Shell Consortium, Siemens Off-board power supply, and 3ME Technology BladeVolt. The next steps now are for us to continue to collaborate with interested mining companies and OEMs to progress our idea and bring the solution through to commercial application.
