One month ago I got my Bachelor degree in Physics from Universidad del Valle. It was quite an amazing and fruitful journey for my professional and personal development. I am thankful to all my career fellows who contributed to this achievement. Now I am looking forward to joining the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to start my PhD studies.

Discovering Princeton: Exploring the Heart of Ivy League Education The world-famous Princeton University, which is situated in Princeton, New Jersey, has continuously been rated as one of the best universities in the world. The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute are just two of the many scientific institutions that call Princeton, which was founded in 1746, home. Princeton is a highly selective and well-resourced university with a low admission rate of roughly 5.5%, a student-to-faculty ratio of 5:1, and an endowment of over $36 billion. With more than 8,600 undergraduate and graduate students from all over the world, Princeton is a center for intellectual curiosity and a beacon of academic excellence. Further, over 1,140 international students attend Princeton, accounting for 13.33% of the total student body and adding to the campus’ rich cultural diversity. On the other hand, U.S. News & World Report ranked Princeton the nation’s top university for the 12th year in a row. https://lnkd.in/ez7nBRrm #education #university #students #diversity #universities #princeton

Glad to have attended the diploma theses presentations of two of my students that I supervised their research projects during the last two years. They are both from the Department of Physics of Nazarbayev University (NU). Mr Nurzhan Asanov [left panel] has worked on how optical and photovoltaic properties of organic solar cells change versus bulk-heterojunction morphology. Due to his excellence, he was the recipient of the prestigious presidential stipend of NU. Our work has been published at Physical Review B by American Physical Society (https://lnkd.in/db55F27W ). A subscription-free version of our manuscript can be found, for a limited time, here: https://lnkd.in/dHzE6AC4. Ms Korlan Ziyatkhan [right panel] has worked on a project related to optimal conditions to develop lossless slow light across the interface of two media with help from surface plasmons. The work is currently under review at a Scopus Q1 peer-reviewed scientific journal. I was also granted a long and fruitful morning meeting with the Provost and acting President of NU, Distinguished Prof. Ilesanmi Adesida [central panel]. The compare-and-contrast between the best Institute in Central Asia (NU) and the best School across the Balkan peninsula (ECE@NTUA) was the main topic of discussion. It covered the different ambition and competence level of students, the different procedure of students admitting to higher education, the different funding systems as well as the influence of the societies discipline and the countries financial performance.

I stopped in for a quick visit to Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and yes, the gothic architecture is stunning. The chapel is particularly gorgeous; just walking down the aisle as a visitor, I was transported to "The Sound of Music, and felt like Maria - minus the stunning gown. Duke is home to about 6400 undergraduate and 10,000 graduate students. It was established in 1924 by the Duke family, affiliated with the United Methodist Church, which it still is today, although there's no religious feeling on campus whatsoever. Although the Duke family's tobacco empire funded this university, Duke was proud to become a smoke-free campus on July 1, 2020, and in 2007, set a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2024. While there are many schools and colleges at Duke, all undergraduates are either in the College of Arts and Sciences or the School of Engineering. The most popular majors here are Computer Science, Economics, Biology, Public Policy, and Psychology. Some really interesting majors are Ancient Religion & Society, Computational Media, Linguistics & Computer Science, Medieval & Renaissance Studies, Slavic & Eurasian Studies, Statistical Science, and Visual & Media Studies. Some majors one might not expect to find are Cinematic Arts, Classical Archeology. Classical Civilization, Computational Biology & Bioinformatics, Computational Media, Energy Engineering, and Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence. With D1 athletics, an endowment of $11.6 billion, and a tremendous alumni network, what's not to love? Only the $80K+ price tag and 6% admission rate!
