Speaker. Coach. Author. Former lawyer.

How could I turn The Happy Lawyer book into an audiobook? 📕🎙️ How could I not? I wrestled with this. After all, the book is quite visual - there are diagrams, charts, and illustrations. It can lose some of its impact when described. BUT I know some people prefer to listen, and I love me a good audiobook, so I knew I had to. The turning point came when I asked myself: "wait, if visuals aren't as good in audio, what would be BETTER in audio?" 🤔 Conversations. Hearing a conversation is so much richer than reading about it. I had my mission. I sought out three luminaries to see if I could interview them for the audiobook. They each said yes! 😊🧡💙 They're not just experts, they have each inspired me personally and the book wouldn't be what it is without them. The first one to appear on the book is Giovanni Marsico, who is a 2x EMMY® award-winning producer and the founder of Archangel, an event (and mastermind) company for purpose driven entrepreneurs. I've been to a number of his events and they have all been absolutely incredible. The second is Michael Port, an author whose nine books have been translated into 29 languages (and made the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers lists). He's founded (and cofounded) multiple successful companies (including his current one, Heroic Public Speaking, where I had the privilege of learning from him). The third and final guest is Kara Hardin, the founder of The Practice Lab, an organization that offers mental health training and education to high performing teams, organizations, and people. She's also a former lawyer and I can be proud to say I've been learning from her for almost two decades. Each of these guests has had a massive impact on me and I can't imagine a better group to share their wisdom with you on the book. I’m this way, the audiobook is its own unique experience. If you're into audio books, I'd humbly suggest that this one might be worth a listen. Link in the comments. Much love, Paul

This calls for celebration, Paul Karvanis! What jumped out for me was not what would be BETTER in audio, but rather what would be a DIFFERENT audience you could reach. The newest research offers evidence that our brains react the same way when listening to an audiobook and reading. The potential of this work is positive, particularly for those with dyslexia, suggesting that people who struggle to read can have the exact same experiences using audiobooks instead of struggling through conventional means of reading.

What a great question to ask Paul. Instead of worrying about losing the visual impact of the book by recording an audio version, you found a way to enhance it, by asking what would make it better. A really good example for all of us, thank you. 😊

I assume the audio will reach the listener differently and more personal way. One that they cannot walk away from easily, but in a good way!
