While planet-scale AI grabs the high-tech headlines, a quiet revolution is underway at the edge of the IoT. His takeaway is clear, “Although Astra is a new AI platform, it is surprisingly mature because it builds upon Synaptics’ long history with neural networks and sensor devices, extensive connectivity portfolio and broad partner base.”   What is on his must-have list and how is Synaptics Astra™ addressing each? 1️⃣ SoC Hardware (Compute Solutions): At launch, the Astra silicon portfolio comprises three SoCs with Arm Cortex-A processors, GPUs, and I/O, tailored for various AI use cases 2️⃣ Platform Software (Unified Software Experience): Astra's GitHub repository offers a unified open-source software experience with Yocto Linux, an Astra SDK, and the SyNAP toolchain for easy development, enabling developers to quickly start building AI applications on the platform. 3️⃣ AI Framework : Synaptics' AI developer toolchain, SyNAP, has a proven track record of efficiently converting neural networks from formats like TensorFlow Lite and ONNX into optimized representations for target hardware-reducing latency and improving performance on Astra's platform. 4️⃣ Wireless Connectivity : Synaptics provides mature wireless solutions for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Zigbee, with Machina supporting Matter over Wi-Fi, and plans to support Thread over a combo module based on SYN4381 or SYN4382 chips. 5️⃣ Partner Ecosystem: Synaptics leverages its longstanding relationships with large OEMs, supply chain partnerships, and showcased innovation partnerships to quickly integrate and scale Astra, providing AI-enabled applications and compute and connectivity solutions. The #AI train is moving full steam ahead, but a more structured ecosystem and AI-first development approach is required. Our own Vikram Gupta shares his views in EE Times | Electronic Engineering Times on what it will take to make AI, particularly at the Edge, more ubiquitous and useful. "Regardless, if everything is going to be intelligent, it would follow that AI shouldn’t be a bolt-on “feature,” but inherent in every IoT product. Getting customers from ideation to real-world deployment requires shifting from the currently fragmented ecosystem to a cohesive, AI-first approach to IoT edge device design.
