📢It’s difficult to pronounce but vital to remember! Melioidosis is a disease caused by bacteria found in tropical soil and water. In the Top End, the wet season brings an increased risk of melioidosis, as the bacteria comes to the surface after drenching rains.🌧️🌧️🌧️ It is important everyone stays protected by wearing shoes🥾when walking outside, gloves 🧤 when working in soil and a mask 😷 when using a pressure hose. Melioidosis bacteria enters the body through cuts and sores and can also be inhaled through dust and droplets when dirt is in the air during storms. The first sign of melioidosis is commonly a chest infection. If left untreated, melioidosis can lead to severe pneumonia and blood poisoning, with around 10 per cent of infections leading to death. ✔️To learn the signs and symptoms and how to protect yourself and your family, please visit: https://lnkd.in/e8jZ9U-B #nthealth #melioidosis
