DRG Symposium 2024 Annual Meeting Of The German Rheological Society (DRG)  12th/13th September 2024 The German Society of Rheology (DRG) is organizing a symposium on September 12 and 13, 2024 to disseminate novel results in the field of rheology. The symposium is thematically open. Oral and poster contributions are welcome in all areas of rheology and applications of complex fluids, including polymer solutions and melts, colloidal suspensions, foams, emulsions, biological or food materials. The symposium will cover experimental, analytical and numerical results, including both academic and industrial research. In particular, young scientists are encouraged to present their work and share their findings with the rheological community. Lectures can be presented in German or English, while slides and abstracts should be prepared in English. A special session is devoted to lectures of members of “die junge Rheologie (djR)”. The awardee of the “Rheologie-Preis” will be also announced during the symposium. Great news! New England Biolabs is kindly sponsoring Junior Presenter prizes for the two best oral abstract presentations at this years' DMS congress in November - so get your abstract started now - you have three weeks left to submit. All submitted abstracts will be considered for a poster presentation by the DMS Abstract Committee, but 12 abstracts will be selected for an oral presentation - and two of those will win the Junior Presenter prizes. The Junior Presenter Prizes consists of both a cash prize as well as an additional New England Biolabs gift certificate of respectively 1.500 EUR and 1.000 EUR that can be used to buy any of their products for research. Why send someone to MSBM.ORG in Dubrovnik, Croatia 7-13 July 2024??? Our mission is to provide didactics in the fundamentals of mass spectrometry followed by topical applications. Firstly, MSBM provides didactic lectures in the "fun"damentals of mass spectrometry with applications in the life sciences and related fields. Around these lectures an exam is developed and worked on during the week. Those who receive a PASS (>50%) may petition their home institutions for ETS credits. Secondly, MSBM serves as a networking opportunity where students have direct access to the dozen + faculty who help with the exam in the evenings over beer and pizza. Our raison d'etre is education of students in mass spectrometry who have had no opportunity during their educational journey for classroom instruction in this analytical science. Advanced students will also benefit from the detailed discussions around concepts like the Mathieu differential equation and frequency based mass measurements among other advanced topics. While the course is geared toward graduate students, the material is accessible to undergraduates and even faculty who may be new to mass spectrometry. I am thrilled to announce the publication of my doctoral research Laboratory-based article Open Access in Environmental Processes. I extend my sincere gratitude to my supervisors, Dr. Edoardo Bertone and Professor Rodney Stewart. I would also express thanks to Associate Professor Helen Stratton, Professor Qin Li, and Dr. Dechao Chen, who are also co-authors of this study. This paper would not have been possible without their valuable insights and guidance. This research's laboratory experiments compared the growth, concentrations, and related fluorescence signatures of E. coli, enterococci, and indole produced under different media and L-tryptophan addition scenarios. The results are promising in relation to the development of a remote, in situ Faecal Indicator Bacteria (FIB) monitoring tool. While monitoring only the E. coli fluorescence region would offer poor selectivity, concurrently monitoring the fluorescence region for indole would exclude non-bacterial contamination events. At the same time, higher selectivity in relation to faecal contamination could be achieved by combining simple site-specific assessments and calibration, additional sensors, and/or fluorescence signal variation analysis. https://lnkd.in/g7YRDcMQ
