Tech giants in China have, one after another, jumped on the generative AI bandwagon. The likes of Baidu, Inc., Alibaba Cloud, Tencent, ByteDance, JD.COM, Huawei have all recently announced their large language models and generative AI capabilities. Meanwhile, the Chinese goverment isn't sitting still. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), China's national regulator of Internet services, has just announced interim rules on generative AI addressing topics such as security, privacy and IP. It's impressive how fast this regulation was formulated and even more so that it will take effect already on August 15th. One noticeable thing is these measures will only apply to generative AI services that are or will be launched to the public, allowing freedom for reseachers and developers to continue experimenting with and puhsing the boudaries of generative AI within their private labs. https://lnkd.in/dTeQPg3Y #GenerativeAI #AIRegulation #ResponsibleAI #ChinaTech

These things need to be regulated. Otherwise our societies will get a big slap in the face any time soon.

Great news on China's updated regulations on generative AI! It's amazing to see tech giants like Baidu, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent, ByteDance, JD.COM, and Huawei embracing the potential of this technology. With the support of the Chinese government through the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), we can expect responsible usage of generative AI in terms of security, privacy, and IP.
