Book launch: BUSINESS SKILLS? Don't be daft I'm a Lawyer!

Happy New Year to all my LinkedIn Friends!

Those who know me will know that I have spent the last two years writing my third book entitled ‘Business Skills, don’t be daft I’m a Lawyer’.

It’s not just another business skills book. Although you will learn a lot from the Lawyers I have interviewed who have shared their experiences, good and bad, of running their own business.

Over the next month or so I will share some of their stories with you to whet your appetite to read more. Further information is available on the link to the landing page and I will be holding a book launch in Leeds on 6th February to which you are welcome. Watch this space for details of the events. The first event will be held in Leeds followed by Harrogate and York.

Ann’s story: ‘In my case, when politics drove me out of my last in-house post, I turned to my second love after the law – leadership and management training. I was passionate about these topics and about creating interactive motivational learning experiences that were practical.

I wanted to take my own leadership and management training and experience from the corporate world into the legal profession. The first time I did this was when I was Chair of the Law Society Commerce and Industry Group. Whilst there, I initiated six firsts for the Group including Corporate Governance Guidelines for In-house lawyers. I started by freelancing for the major legal training companies. I was in fact approached to work for one of the companies to set up their leadership and management programme for lawyers, which I did.

Personal circumstances led me to return to my home county of Yorkshire and to undertake specific training on setting up and running a business including marketing.

I explored a number of ways to set up and develop businesses both in and out of the law. I realised that actually, I loved working with my profession on the teaching and

coaching side. Following the business skills training, I decided to add these skills to my products (e.g. The Business Brilliance Blueprint Programme) and coaching services.

I did not want to be wedded to any one system, so I offer a customised holistic approach to lawyers to address their challenges.

This, in turn, has led me to deliver a series of mini-workshops on a number of current challenges for lawyers. Mindfulness and Stress Management is just one example. I continue to deliver themed workshops alongside my business coaching and training.

My best and worst business habit – I love teaching and coaching business skills and seeing my clients soar and my diary management could be better.

A little known fact is that I am a Star War’s fan
