What's Eco consciousness and how to make your business Eco-friendly

Eco consciousness or ecological consciousness refers to sustainable living that reduces, minimizes, or harmless upon ecosystems or the environment.

By being Eco conscious about reducing pollution, protecting wildlife, conserving natural resources and taking other actions that can help slow the rate of climate change bring a positive impact.

What can you do to live Eco conscious?

Choose plant-based foods over animal-based foods

Experts agree that one of the best things you can do for the planet is to not eat animal products and even reducing your meat consumption one day a week could have an impact

  1. Eliminate single-use plastics

Plastic pollution whether in land mined or water bodies is a huge environmental crisis.

It is estimated by the World Economic Forum that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

While industry and government need to address the plastic crisis, you can still do your part as an individual and purge the plastic from your life. Here are easy things you can start doing now:

  • Stop using plastic bags.
  • Ditch straws
  • Reuse single-use plastic containers
  • Save and reuse glass jars for storing food or household items
  1. Walk, bike, or use public transportation for moving around

By walking, biking or using mass transportation you are moving away from our reliance on environmentally hazardous fossil fuels which is a huge deal for the environment.

  1. Turn it off electricity you are not using

Energy conservation is one of the most important things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. Leaving your electricals on standby needlessly uses up energy.

  1. Plant some trees

Ecological sustainability is very important when it comes to eco-friendly living. Without a stable ecosystem, things start to fall apart. Plant trees to protect the environment and improve air quality.

  1. Recycle

Recycling conserves natural resources, reduces pollution and saves energy. Recycling involves sorting and cleaning up trash to produce secondary materials mainly glass, paper, metal and plastic.

What’s an Eco-friendly business?

Being eco friendly means living in a way that is not harmful to the environment. This way of life is becoming increasingly important, as we need to protect our planet from man-made damage.

Eco-Friendly business is a type of material that doesn't harm the environment, whether in its production, use or disposal and can easily be recycled.

An eco-friendly business, or green business is one that demonstrates a commitment to an environmentally sustainable future. Green businesses strive to have a positive impact on the environment and their community.

This can be achieved through many practices and strategies, from recycling to sourcing local products to promoting energy efficiency. Using Eco-Friendly materials is hugely beneficial in the long run.

How you can make your business eco-friendly

  1. Recycle Your Office Waste

A simple step to becoming a more sustainable business is by taking action against waste and recycling. As a business, make sure you have recycling bins well spread and identified and that your employees are aware of the recycling rules.

  1. Choose sustainable materials

Small business sustainability starts at the source. The first step toward making your business more environmentally friendly is asking the following questions about your source materials.

Make sure your supplier integrates strong ethical, social, and environmental performances in the production of the materials and that the materials are made with recyclable, renewable, and biodegradable materials.

  1. Use Eco-friendly packaging

According to the United States environmental protection agency, containers and packaging alone contribute to over 23% of the material reaching landfills in the US. You can significantly reduce your brand’s pollution contribution by changing the way you package your products.

Go with biodegradable packaging. Packaging is an important part of your brand experience. By making it sustainable, you’ll leave an even better impression.

  1. Reduce paperwork

Offices in the US use 12.1 trillion sheets per year. Cost aside, that’s a lot of trees.

By aiming to be as paperless as possible, you are saving trees that are cutted for making paper.

Switch to online billing and paperwork not only does it drastically cut down on paper waste, but it also vastly increases your physical storage space.

  1. Create awareness within your employees

Small business sustainability includes the efforts of your whole team. A company culture that is built around environmental awareness makes it easy to reach your goals.

Encourage your employees to buy into a greener mindset by incentivizing and rewarding environmentally friendly habits and showing appreciation for their efforts. Motivate and engage them by asking for ideas and input on how you can make positive changes both in your workplace and your community.

  1. Donate

When you discard furniture or other large pieces, look into creative reuse or donation before adding them to the waste stream. Many items can be reused as is, broken into component parts for repurposing.

Also, look to purchase repurposed or recycled when seeking new furniture pieces.

  1. Go Local!

Choose the most fuel and time efficient modes of transportation to purchase goods and deliver your product to customers. Your first choice should always be to buy products locally made over goods traveling a long distance. Order larger amounts with less frequency to minimize trips.
