Are you having a tough time finding a job?

In my last semester of graduation, one fine day I was on my way to college with my friend. She asked me if we could come home earlier that day as she had some bank related work. But we got stuck in a seminar in the college and got free a little later than bank hours. I felt bad then and asked my friend about the work she had in bank. I came to know that she had registered on a recruitment portal and they had offered her a job. The job was in an airline company but the profile was not clear. Adding more to it, she said that she had to deposit an amount of ₹8000 for confirmation and they would call her to some metropolitan suburb. Besides, the also claimed that they would send her flight tickets for the same. I wondered about the opportunity that she got and found out more about it. To my surprise and her, I registered with the same recruiting website just to find out that it was a scam!

My friend is not the only one who had fallen to such a trap. There are so many people with whom I had connected, that came up with the same problem. Getting a job is a life changing opportunity for a person. The hard work one puts in studying, in building his/her profile and the hopes and expectation that are on his shoulders, carry an enormous amount of emotions that are incomparable to the money that a company could make by fooling freshers or the likes that and comments that 'self-proclaimed' recruiters get by 'going through the profile of candidates that comment Yes or Interested on their status.' If one can't provide a job, they shouldn't at least make fun of the candidates who, weave a complete life around a potential opportunity.

What things should be kept in mind?

Before falling into such a trap, it is very important to check the credibility of the company that helps you to find jobs. There so many genuine portals aimed at helping to get a job and they work, but every picture has its own black and white. Putting an effort and working hard is a genuine way towards success but everything goes in vain when it is put at wrong place and in the wrong direction.

Beware of the companies that ask for some amount of money in turn of setting up an interview. Use your senses in situations and figure out why would a multinational company that has a standardized hiring process would recruit you through a website, and call you without knowing your expertise and field of study.

What could be done?

Getting a job might not be very tough, But there is a systematic process for everything. If you are willing to find one, following points might help you:

Build a great profile: You need to take a note of this especially if you are a fresher. A company would hire you to perform certain work for them. So you need to have demonstrated interest in that field. You might receive a training for few months, but your CV should depict that you are interested and capable of fitting in a job profile.

Have a strong network: Being in contact with people of your field might be a great help. as you would be updated with the latest trends, technology and profile requirements for a job. It will help you to get information about any vacancies in their company. Besides, you can also get a referral and you remain tension free about the genuineness of the opportunity.

Look for credible sources: Many companies post opportunities through recruitment portals but most of them post them on their official website. Almost every company's website have a 'careers' section where opportunities are frequently posted. Don't forget to go through the website of your dream companies. Look for vacancies and apply directly.

Register on genuine employment portals: Job portals are one of the easiest and best methods for finding and applying for jobs, but not every one of them is genuine. Before registering somewhere and submitting your contact details, make sure you research about it, contact people in your circle those who have used it and read the reviews about the same.

Do not stop: Keep on applying for opportunities and giving interviews. It is your dream job, you need to work hard for it. Apply to maximum opportunities, hope for the best and go on for the next. Every time you will discover something new about yourself and you will keep on improving.

The day when you will land up with your dream job, will be the day when you will realize that 'It was all worth it!'
