The 56th Operations Group welcomed their new commander during change of command ceremony here June 30.

Brig. Gen. Tom Jones, 56th Fighter Wing commander, served as the reviewing officer when Col. Robert Givens relinquished command of the 56th OG to Col. George Schaub.

Colonel Givens was a tremendous addition to our wing, and we all benefited from his time as a leader, said General Jones.

Colonel Givens - after spending only a single year serving as a Luke commander - was selected to be the Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Before the colonel relinquished command, he clarified the reason behind the group's success.

"It is your efforts and dedication that allow the group to work and function smoothly," Colonel Givens said to the men and women of the 56th OG.

General Jones addressed the Thunderbolts of the operations group and challenged them to continue their outstanding efforts under Colonel Schaub.

Colonel Schaub emphasized how extremely proud and happy he is to lead such an outstanding group.

"This group has an outstanding reputation both inside and outside the Air Force," said Colonel Schaub. "We remain the premier F-16 training unit in the world, and I will continue to the support our mission by focusing on winning today's war, taking care of our Airmen and preparing for future challenges."
