The Banded Coral Shrimp or Boxer Shrimp has red and white bands across the entire body. It has a long arching set of pinching claws and long flowing antennae.
The Banded Coral Shrimp is a great beginner invertebrate. It may clean parasites from the skin and mouth of fish and scavenge for organisms in the rock and substrate. This shrimp does not fare well in reef tanks due to their capability of pinching various corals and other inverts. Keep only one unless part of a mated pair. House with peaceful fish such as tangs or clownfish with plenty of live rock for shelter.
Banded Coral Shrimp will hide and molt in the tank periodically. Keep water conditions stable and supplement with iodine.
Marine Shrimp are very resourceful in finding their own food but it will be necessary to supplementing their diet with small food pellets and flake food; also include minced meaty foods.
