BLACKSPOT
SERGEANT kūpīpī
A solitary
territorial species common in shallow rocky areas where it feeds upon
algae and small invertebrates. Prominent black spot on upper
caudal peduncle, absent in
A. septemfasciatus. Juveniles have a yellow spot on the
dorsal fin and black dot ahead of the tail, while nuptial males are
black with white bars. Attains 9 inches. Red Sea to Hawai'i and
Pitcairn Island. |
