These small worm-like eels spend their life
completely buried in sand and emerge at night to spawn at the surface.
Most specimens are collected using night lights. Juveniles, and
mature females and males differ in anatomy and color thus making
positive identification tricky. The best trait is a protruding
lower jaw, eyes covered by clear adipose tissue, small pectoral fins (in
adults), and a low median fin terminating in a truncate tail.
