Uncommon on sand and rubble flats at any depth.  Retreats into burrow when approached.  Black dash on operculum, arcuate brown stripe descending onto caudal fin.  Attains 6 inches.  East Africa to Okinawa and French Polynesia, excluding Hawaii.
