Status:

Shumard Oak is a rare oak of the Piedmont and the Coastal Plain of Southern Maryland along the Potomac River. It reaches it's northern limit in Maryland.

Description:

One of the larger red oaks.

Where to find:

Found at Great Falls NP in Montgomery County, where the trees are very large and many are dying.

Relationships:

Host plant to the Buck Moth (Database of the World's Lepidopteran Hostplants).
