Friendship International Airport
Description
View of a terminal and several airplanes at Friendship International Airport, located nine miles south of Downtown Baltimore in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Dedicated by President Harry S. Truman on June 24, 1950, the airport was named after the nearby Friendship Methodist Church. In 1972, the Maryland Department of Transportation purchased the airport from Baltimore City and the Maryland State Aviation Administration assumed operations. It was then renamed Baltimore/Washington International Airport the subsequent year. In 2005 the airport received a new name once again, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, in honor of Baltimore-native and former United States Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall.
