Felsener Esch 1
Felsener Esch 1 submitted by Martin_L : The chamber viewed from the North-west (April 2008). In general its an impressive site, but again it is in a badly neglected state. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Extended dolmen near Osnabrück in Lower Saxony.

Although nearly all main slabs of the 3-capstone chamber are preserved, this site was badly neglected in the 20th century and now unfortunately is in a devastating state (2008). (Site description submitted by Martin_L , September 2009)
When Sprockhoff and Schwieger examined the tomb in 1927 only one orthostat was missing, while all others were preserved in situ: 3 (out of 3) on the south-western long side, 2 (out of 3) on the north-eastern long-side and one orthostat on each narrow side. The chamber is slightly trapezoid, being wider in the south-east. The large south-eastern capstone still was in situ in 1927. The two smaller capstones were collapsed into the chamber. Clear size is 4,5m x 2,5m(SE)/2m(NW). According to Sprockhoff's research it was an extended dolmen. The entrance most probably was situated at the south-eastern narrow side as the orthostat on this side is noticeably shorter.
When visiting the site in 1989 it was completely overgrown with brambles, bushes and trees. The large capstone obviously was pushed off its orthostats after 1927 by a tree growing inside the chamber.
In 2008 it was obvious, that the site was cleared from vegetation in the meantime. Sadly it is already getting overgrown with brambles and again a tree is growing in the chamber. And of course the capstone was not placed back on the orthostats.

Felsener Esch 1 submitted by SolarMegalith : This strongly ruined chambered tomb lies in the middle of the field, near the road to Driehausen (you'll be able to see it from the road). The big, round capstone is the most visible remain. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Felsener Esch 1
Felsener Esch 1 submitted by Martin_L : Modern damage: The capstone (C3) was pushed off (after 1927) its orthostats (SW3, NE3) by a tree growing inside the chamber. Nowadays the trees are cut, but the damage has not been repaired and again the site is getting overgrown. One of many sad examples where cultural heritage suffers damage due to a lack of care even nowadays (April 2008) (Vote or comment on this photo)

Felsener Esch 1 submitted by Martin_L : Less overgrown again after some gardening. Seen from the NW. Chamber largely embedded into eroded remains of the covering barrow.
