The Old Woman Stone
The Old Woman Stone submitted by h_fenton : The Old Woman Stone, showing the broken base of the stone. 2 May 2009 (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Old Woman Stone, on Bamford Moor. Prehistoric Standing stone, deliberately knocked over in the early 20thCentury so that ramblers could not use it as a route marker. The letters 'H A' and 'C P' have been carved into the face of the stone at some stage (not recently)

The stone along with is stump was about 2.5 metres high (or rather long as it lies on the ground), 1.4 metres wide, 0.5metres thick. It is local gritstone and has some deeply weathered grooved in it.

It is thought to be bronze age and associated with 'Bamford Moor South stone circle' which is about 200m SSE.
