Two stone circles, now badly ruined, stand to the north and south.

Some disparate stones based around a very wide circular earthwork are all that could be made out here. One is put in mind of an enormous embanked circle.

Close by are the remains of 2 chambered long cairns at GR: SH614205 and the tomb of Coetan Arthur at GR: SH603228.

Ffridd Newydd submitted by w650marion : One stone of the small circle survives in the field wall which clips it on the E. To view it you have to leave the field and walk along the other side of the wall. See how it tilts out from the wall, an anomaly in a perfectly flat carefully built wall. I checked the position carefully with coordinates on my iphone and plant stalks placed upright on top of the wall when at the location on the other... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Ffridd Newydd Arrow stones
Ffridd Newydd Arrow stones submitted by TimPrevett : History Gallery This is an arrow stone at SH69237238, in Conwy, denoted on the map as an "incised stone". There are three arrow stones in this area - but I only found this one. Very fine scratchings upon the stone, used to sharpen arrow heads. Graig Lwyd is the mountain to the left on the horizon. Neolithic axe heads were made there, but these markings are too fine to be associated wit... (3 comments)

The Scheduled monument report suggests that the smaller north circle has one stone surviving in the field wall which clips it on the east. Well, this makes it more interesting!

The Gwynedd Archaeological Trust record says geophysics has been done in this field, and suggests that the larger circle may be a henge monument! Also, the clearance cairn of large stones to the south west could well be the stones taken from the larger circle. This site is definitely getting very interesting!

The photos of the arrow stones on this stone circle page shouldn’t be here -they had me confused as they actually by Conway, nowhere near Barmouth! I’ve noticed that this happens when two very different sites have the same name but different locations so the photos appear in both locations!

These two circles ARE both plainly visible once you get your eye in but you do need a 1:25 000 map, and to enter the field marked as containing them. Although there is plenty of 'clitter' of unrelated stones the bigger circle in particular will suddenly appear - a few low uprights and some prostrate stones, and an appearance of embankment. Only one upright survives of the smaller circle, but it can still be distinguished. A good 'break' point on the walk up to Hengwn cairns from Tal-y-Bont.
