How are canal rays produced ?

Dear student,

Please find below the solution to the query posted by you.

When electric potential of approximately 10000 V is applied across the cathode with holes and anode, with pressure of 1 mm of mercury then a stream of faint luminous glow comes from each hole on the backside of cathode. This can be explained application of potential across the cathode causes ionisation of the molecules and they start moving towards the cathode. The rays passing from the holes constitute the canal rays.

Hope this information will clear your doubt regarding canal rays.
