VIENNA TWP, MI -- The musical lineup for the High Times Midwest Cannabis Cup in Genesee County has begun to trickle out roughly one month in advance of the event celebrating all things marijuana.
Scheduled for Sept. 8-9 at Auto City Speedway, 10205 N. Saginaw Road, in Vienna Township, the first musical act announced on the event's website is a throwback to the mid-2000s southern rap scene.
Houston rapper Mike Jones is set to take the stage on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the all-medical marijuana event. Jones is best known for his songs "Back Then" and "Still Tippin."
The Cannabis Cup event in June featured hip-hop and rap artists including Lil' Wayne, Machine Gun Kelly, Ludacris, Vic Mensa, Berner, and Yo Gotti on stage as vendors occupied the infield selling their wares.
September's event comes just a few months prior to Michigan voters heading to the ballots to vote on a ballot proposal that could legalize recreational marijuana usage by state residents.
The Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act would, in part, create a 10 percent excise sales tax and allow for those 21 and over to possess two-and-one-half ounces of marijuana at home and grow up to 12 plants.
Caretakers may currently grow a limited amount of plants for a certain number of patients following approval by voters of the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act in 2008.
This year's events mark the fifth year the High Times magazine is holding the event at Auto City Speedway.
Started in 1988 in Amsterdam, the Cannabis Cup events include a trade expo with vendors and marijuana competition.
It became an all-medical event for the Michigan event in June 2016.
Tickets can be purchased online or on-site starting at $40 for a one-day general admission pass to $115 for a two-day VIP pass that includes a free water bottle and a commemorative poster.
