The W350 was an affordable handset added to Sony Ericsson’s well-established Walkman portfolio in January 2008. During the launch at Sony’s CES 2008 press conference, the W350 was described as “one of the most inventive Walkman designs yet”. The controls on the outside of the phone allowed users to access functions including Play, Pause and Scroll providing a similar user experience to standalone MP3 players at the time. The W350 was only 10mm thick and came in four colours: electric black, ice blue, hypnotic black and graphic white. Other colours were launched later, including a purple variant which is included in the Mobile Phone Museum collection. It had a 1.9-inch screen and was supplied with a 512MB M2 memory card that could store up to 470 tracks or 40 entire albums. Music could be easily transferred onto the phone using Sony’s Media Manager software which made it possible to ‘drop and drag’ music tracks from a computer onto the phone via a USB cable. The W350 also included the following games: Extreme Air Snowboarding, Guitar Rock Tour, and QuadraPop.
