VASTECH gets new Board of Governors

Vakpo, Aug. 17, GNA - A new Board of Governors for Vakpo Senior High Technical School (VASTECH) has been inaugurated at a ceremony at Vakpo in the Volta Region.

The Board under the Chairmanship of Mrs. Patricia Akpene Tegbe-Agbo has been tasked to ensure the effective management of the school in accordance with the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council guidelines provided for second-cycle institutions in the country.

Other members of the Board are Mr. Mawusi S. Adama Adziman, Headmaster of the School, Togbe Awuro (V) an educationist and a senior Divisional Chief of Vakpo representing the Traditional Authority, The Rev. Joana A. Ampomah, Assistant Headmistress, Administration, representing the teaching staff, Mr. Abotsi Elias Mac, the School's Bursar and a representative of the non-teaching staff, as well as Mr. Alfred Asiedze, secretary to the Board.

The rest are representatives of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and the Old Students Association.

In a speech, Mrs. Dora Humado, Kpando Municipal Director of Education, commended the outgoing Board for their enormous contributions towards the development of VASTECH.

She congratulated the new members on their selection, which according to her was based on the GES laid down criteria to serve on the Board, adding that “we are aware of your numerous personal and other corporate assignments, yet you have accepted to serve on the Board. Please accept our heartfelt gratitude”.

Mrs. Humado advised the Board to support the headmaster and his dedicated staff to accomplish their vision to transform VASTECH into a centre of excellence in terms of leadership, management and administration, high achievement in academic performance as well as co-curricular activities.

She said the school's records indicated that academic performance and disciplinary standards, as well as participation in co-curricular activities, continued to improve adding that despite these achievements, the school continued to grapple with numerous challenges related to infrastructural development.

Mrs Humado appealed to the Board to support the headmaster to use the vast stretch of land for agricultural production to enhance the quality of food in the dining hall, and also fetch some income.

She appealed to the new Board of Governors to strategise towards turning out products with the requisite academic and attitudinal standards that will propel them to high professional attainments.

Mr. Adama Adzima in his situational report to the Board, mentioned the absence of a school bus, administration block, staff bungalows, kitchen and dining hall, and a bore-hole with submersible pump, as some of the challenges facing the school.

He said most of the existing buildings on the compound needed renovation, while there was the urgent need for the construction of approach roads on campus, adding that the school also needed a 12-unit classroom block to enable them to ease the pressure on the existing facilities.

Mr. Adama Adzima appealed to the Board to assist the school authorities to demarcate and document the school lands and also construct fence walls to keep away encroachers from the school's property.

Mrs. Tegbe-Agbo on behalf of the new Board, expressed their gratitude to the authorities for the opportunity granted them to serve.

She said the Board would work as a team and pool the varied professional experiences, expertise and backgrounds of the members to bring accelerated development to VASTECH.

Lt. Colonel Nathaniel Kpikpitse (Rtd), Chairman of the outgoing Board advised the incoming Board members called for closer co-operaion between the school authorities and the new Board for the betterment of the school.
