Low, extensively creeping perennial grass with short, erect branches; 4 to 11 inches tall. Leaf blades sickle-shaped, giving appearance of clusters. Short spikelets of inconspicuous flowers nearly concealed in leaves; blooms May-June.

Common in upper zone of salt marshes and tidal flats.
