Aspicilia contorta subsp. hoffmanniana
Differs from subsp. contorta (with which it may grow) in its sometimes darker colour, more scurfy surface and areoles more distinctly angled when conjoined and more closely packed at the thallus margin. A. calcaria differs in its smooth thallus surface and well defined, often radially cracked thallus margin.
On soft limestones and becoming very common on concrete and on cement in urban areas.
All year round.
Widespread and increasingly common in Britain.
Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
