Rough-stalked Feather-moss - Brachythecium rutabulum
A common but variable moss forming loose, medium-sized patches. Capsules are frequent, having a curved, egg-shaped form with a roughened seta (visible with a hand lens).
Happy in a broad range of habitats. Shady or open places. On logs, stump, trunks and branches, as well as stones, rubble and rocks, walls and even soil, gravel or grassland. Only altitude or very high acidity seem to reduce its frequency.
Very common and widespread in Britain.
Very common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
