Walter A. Dumai, one time top aide to Gen. Doug Ian MacArthur, died here yester day of a heart attack at Letter man Army Hospital. He was 58 A native of Sherman, Tex General Dumas entered the Army In World War I and served with th expeditionary forces In Si beria In 1919-20. He was an instructor at West Joint from 1927 to 1931 and throughout World War II was a plana and operations officer on General MacArthur'a staff.

He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and a Legion of Merit from both the Army and the Navy. He retired here in 1947 General Dumas was an active member of the San Francisco Kl wanls, Shrlners and National So-journers. He is survived by his widow, Josephine, who lives at 3340 San llago Street; a son, Capt. Walter Arthur Dumas, of Fort Benning and a daughter, Mrs. John B.

Stokes, of Philadelphia. Burial will be at Arlington Na tional Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by Poyner 1550 California Street. Sloss Estate To Widow The will of Louis Sloss, leaving 98 per cent of his estate to his widow, Margaret K. Sloss, of 3070 Pacific Avenue, was filed for probate yesterday in superior court.

Mr. Sloss, business and civic loader, died last week. The value of the estate was given only as "over $10,000." Attorney Lloyd Ackerman refused to speculate on the actual value, The remaining 2 per cent of the estate was willed to Stanford University, of which Mr. Sloss was a graduate, to be designated "The Louis Sloss Fund." An appraiser for the estate will be appointed September 22. Mrs.

Sloss was named as executrix and a son, Louis Sloss executor. "Doc" Andrew Marcck, notorl ous fake physician and paroled Folsom lifer, became a four-time loser last night with his convlc tion as an abortionist. Found guilty with Mareck were his mother, Mrs. Lena Califro 70. of 10 Cedro Avenue, and El Hot Toor, 57, of 325 Urbano Drive It took a jury of nine men and hree women two and a half 'lours to reach the verdict.

A notion for a new trial was made Immediately and was scheduled iOr decision Wednesday by Su ocrior Judge Herman van der Zee. Wife Pleads Guilty Mareck was arrested last Janu ary at his "abortion ranch" near Marysville, Yuba County, On the complaint of a young San Fran cisco housewife. Mareck's wife, Alice, 26, sought is her husband's nurse In the 11 legal operations, surrendered two lays later. She pleaded guilty auring the trial. Her attornev nacie a motion tor probation.

Mrs. Califro and Toor, a phar macist, were accused as his ac- who lined up prospec tive patients and screened them. Mareck reportedly charge 1350 to $400 for an operation. Long Record He and Mrs. Califro were found guilty on four counts of abortion and two county of conspiracy to commit aoortion.

Toor was convicted on one count each. Mareck, whose police record Jates back to a robbery in 1918, was a parolee when -he was arrested in 1948 and charged with operating an abortion mill in a Menlo Park cottage. He was sent back to prison as a parole violator and paroled again the next year. Mareck's mother has been ar rested seven times on abortion charges, including an abortion murder in 1939. She was never convicted.

S. P. Ferryboat Rams Pier auses $30,000 Damage No Passengers Injured A Southern Pacific ferryboat smashed into the Ferry Building pier yesterday doing an estlmat ed $30,000 damage. Southern Pacific officials were unable to account for the accl dent other than that the craft, the Sacramento "was going; too fast." Force of the blow knocked passengers down, splintered the loading ramp, and several pile clusters of the slip, and damaged the head house. There were no Injuries.

Damage estimate to the pier was maae Dy waiter maintenance superintendent for he State Board of Harbor Com missioners. Southern Pacific officials re ported the boat was not dam aged. It was carrying train pas sengers from Oakland, who ar ived on the Eldorado train from Sacramento. Crewe Jury Chosen 6 Men, 6 Women to Ponder Case A jury of six men and six women was selected yesterday in the "old folks" scandal trial of Alfred R. Crewe, discharged health department social worker.

It took three days to complete the jury. Crewe is accused of conspiring take over the estates of elderly incompetents entrusted to his care. The trial, in the court of Superior Judge Twain Michelson. expected to last three or four weeks. It will resume Monday.

Crewe, 54, faces eighteen counts Including grand theft, bribe taking and conspiracy. The indictment charges that he accepted fees from rest homes in return for assigning to them the care of aged persons. William Martin Hale, dean of East, Bay police reporters, died Thursday at the Yountvllle Sol diets Home, it was disclosed yes terday. He was 64. Mr.

Hale, who was known to thousands in the East Bay as "Willie," was with the Oakland Tribune at the time of his death He had covered police news in Oakland for almost thirty-seven years. His first newspaper job was lth The Examiner as a copy boy in Oakland. Two years later he went to the Chronicle as a police reporter. In 1922 he began his employment with the Tribune. The only interruption in his newspaper career was for brief service as an Army medical corps man in World War I.

He covered nearly every major crime story in the East Bay dur ing his term of service. Mr. Hale was born In Oakland ind orphaned as a child. He is survived by a brother, Alfred, of 1120 East Eighteenth Street. Oak land, a sister, Mrs.

Emma Miller of the same address, and another sister, Mrs. Helen Felice of Coul terville. Oakland Bar Held Up Suspect Nabbed Later In 1 ,200 Robbery An unmasked robber, simulat ing a revolver in his coat pocket, walked into the Idora Lounge at 5620 Shattuck Avenue in Oakland late yesterday, herded twelve cus tomers into a rear room, and then fled with $1,200 in cash. Witnesses saw the bandit leap into a 1946 sedan parked in front of the tavern, and race off. A half hour later, Police Officer Ralph Montgomery spotted the car at Claremont and Telegraph Avenues, and after a nine block chase, arrested Jack Hulstun, 31, of 2112 Addison Street, Berkeley, as a suspect.

Hulstun, a bartender, admitted participation in the robbery, police said, and Implicated an unidentified companion.
