Festival Spotlight: Kiefer Sutherland

PHOTOGRAPH BY JACK GUY

This summer, the television show “24: Live Another Day” ended its thirteen-year run as a critical and commercial success. Its star, Jack Bauer, who was played by my guest, Kiefer Sutherland, may be as synonymous with the “war on terrorism” as any resident of the White House. Washington, D.C., think tanks have dedicated discussions to “24,” and the dean of the United States Military Academy at West Point visited the set in 2006. I’ll be talking to Sutherland about growing up as the son of a movie star (Donald Sutherland), early stardom (“Stand by Me,” “The Lost Boys,” “Young Guns”), storytelling (geopolitical action thrillers in 2014), the burdens of being Bauer (the torture controversy), life after “24,” and much more.
