David Colby was a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of California, San Francisco. In the laboratory of Stanley Prusiner, his research focused on understanding the role of intermediate protein conformations in neurodegenerative diseases, including prion and Huntington’s diseases. After developing a technique for detecting protease-sensitive pathological intermediates, he applied this technique to study intermediates’ structure and role in neurodegeneration. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from MIT, and his B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University.
