Citroën BX Garage, France

This abandoned Citroën BX Garage lies at the roadside on the edges of a small French village. Petrol pumps once stood outside, but most of these have been removed. There are cracks and weeds all over the tarmac of the forecourt. The exterior of the garage is shabby and rundown. Therefore it is clear that the location has been abandoned for many years. In this case, it appears that the garage and shop were closed sometime around 1995.

We visited the Citroën BX Garage during the Belgium / Luxembourg / France September 2017 – The Kolossal Tour.

A dusty shop and reception

Inside the shop, there is a retro-looking reception counter. The floor is black and white linoleum tiles. There are several vintage metal signs, including a rusting Total sign on a magazine rack. Upon the shelves are various belts, mirrors and lights. On top of the desk lies a Les Pages Jaunes directory, from 1995. Consequently, this gives us a hint of how long this location has been closed.

Abandoned Citroën BX Garage and mechanics workshop

A door connects the shop to the garage area. The most interesting feature of this location is found here. There is a grey Citroën BX, covered with dust. This appears to be a BX16 model, judging by the bodywork and side indicator style. The BX16 was manufacturer between 1982 and 1992. In front of the Citroën BX there is a small boat, sitting on a towing trailer.

The car garage features various hydraulic lifts and jacks, all are old and rusty. Car and bicycle tyres hang from the roof. Additionally, there is a collection of tyres in a red rack. The red rack feature a lovely vintage Michelin tyres metal sign.

Behind the car is the parts store. Here there are car parts for various cars, organised by brand and model. There is a large collection on Renault parts in a branded storage rack.

cAR PARTS TIMELESS QUALITY, rusting old iron press and a superb anvil on a lump of metal Ohh i so wish to view and get close with my macro lens. Watching tv like American Pickers and 2nds in all areas of life this little garage is a cornucopia of cash…………Great shots, brilliant dimensions, dusty, gravel ridden dirty and ready for me to clean up. Thanks for your wonderful write up too

    • Thanks for your lovely comments again Amanda :). Oh I think I would get on well with your husband. My favourite car is actually a Citroen DS-21! One day I dream of owning one. Driving around the country roads, wouldn’t that be something! I think you are right, that there would be so many great macro shots here. The old tin cans of oil and the rack of spare parts had lots of nice details. It is quite something to see a car like this all safe and snug in a garage. I hope it stays that way, until someone comes along to save and restore it 🙂
